What our guests have to share

June 17, 2014 We stayed in Courtyard Apartments for one week. It was very comfortable, and ideal location just opposite the busy Machane Yehuda , where there are loads of very scrumptious restaurants and bars, Our apartment was facing away from the market, so was quiet at night. We were staying on the first floor, so it was relatively easy for us to take luggage upstairs. However would have been more difficult if we were on third floor. A great location, very close to the Jerusalem light railway, which takes you to most of the tourist sites

April, 2014 The caretaker, Solomon, was extremely helpful and kind. Thank you for being a tourist guide to my husband and I. The old Jewish charm, and architecture with a center indoor courtyard was far better than somewhere cold and modern. The central location,on the bus route, close to the tram and a doable walking distance to the Old City, added plus—next door to Makhane Yehuda a fun open air market–.Fruits, vegetables meat and fish first class and because we had a kitchen we cut down on the cost of food.Parking was in a side street close by, and we got acquainted with a fun bunch of Parking attendants. The only drawback was the noise on the street, but earplugs are cheap.

January, 2014 The Market Courtyard is a beautiful little oasis in the center of the city. It is on agripas Street across from the Yehuda Market, which is the no. 1 market in the city. Our top-floor corner apartment had all the comforts of home, plus two balconies. It was clean, well-furnished, and smartly laid out, with closet space and room enough for a family. My only regret was that we didn’t have more time. The owners are wonderful people and took care to make sure our arrival and departure went smoothly.
December, 2013 We were so pleased to have found this accommodation in Jerusalem. We planned five nights therefore wanted the option of not having to eat out everyday. This was the ticket for that equation. I loved the fact that the establishment immediately e-mailed us to confirm our reservation, sent detailed directions on how to find the place and were always quick to respond with answers to questions. The apartment was very clean, compact and had all we needed for our stay including complimentary tea and coffee. The location could not have been better. Easy walk from the light rail to find the place, and a very pleasant walk to the Old City. You can take the light rail to get there, but Jaffa S,t without all of it’s traffic, (only light rail system on street), was such a pleasant walk with many shops, restaurants, benches, ice cream places along the way. The apartment had a lovely little balcony and we overlooked the shuk. Fantastic place to shop for food, nick nacks etc. It was just a fun place to walk even if you did not need to make any purchases! Shlomo was such a wonderful host. Always around to answer questions and indeed extremely helpful. Thank you Shlomo. We found the wifi to be excellent in the room, the bed was comfortable, but the room we occupied had a slanted ceiling, (which i loved), however i did have to remember to duck when getting in and out of my side of the bed. This place really has no negatives about it, but if you are a light sleeper, you may want to request a room on the other side of the shuk. There were night noises emanating from restaurants into the wee hours. The t.v. in our room worked well and there were a plethora of channels to choose from. There is a bakery at the stop light which we only discovered on our second last day there unfortunately. Do check it out! Yum.We would definitely stay here again.

December, 2013 We recommend the Market Courtyard as an exciting place to stay when visiting Jerusalem. It is clean, very comfortable and secure. Our room had a balcony overlooking the picturesque neighborhood of Nachlaot where we could view the sunsets over Jerusalem and hear the sounds of the area which were very special as Shabbat was approaching. We loved being across the street from the “shuk”, Machane Yeduda, the market of Jerusalem where vendors sell fresh fruits and vegetables, delicious pastries and just about every food you might want. I became a fan of the Israeli salad dressing of lemon juice and olive oil which I made in the room to serve with fresh lettuce from the Market. Never have I tasted such a delicious lemon! The buses stop right in front of the Market Courtyard so transportation is easy. The light-rail is only a block away. It is a five minute walk to King George Street and stores of Ben Yehuda. There are many synagogues in the neighborhood.Shlomo, the resident manager, was helpful in every way both with checking in, recommendations and other services. We were leaving when the snowstorm of December 2013 began and were having difficulty finding a way to Tel aviv. Shlomo worked tirelessly to help us find a taxi to Tel aviv.We look forward to return to the Market Courtyard on our next trip to Jerusalem. Perfect place to stay. A great combination of a hotel and an apartment.

July 18, 2013 We loved our stay at The Market Courtyard. It was the perfect place to stay for our group of 12 consisting of three generations of our family. We stayed in 4 apartments for 4 days and were warmly greeted upon arrival and helped to our rooms. The staff is genuinely friendly and helpful. The impeccably clean and efficiently air-conditioned apartments were very comfortable and tastefully decorated. We were impressed by the craftsmanship of the custom furniture and the architectural details of the building. The kitchens are useful to prepare and plate the treats bought from the Market across the street. The showers are wonderful. Everyone in our party immediately felt very comfortable and at home. The Market Courtyard is a very charming respite in a bustling area of Jerusalem. The three stories of apartments all face inward toward the courtyard below from lovely balconies. Although the building was newly built, it retains the old world character of the original building. We enjoyed our morning coffees seated at café tables in the relaxing courtyard while planning our busy days and returned in the evenings to enjoy good conversation and over a bottle of wine. It is romantic, quiet and peaceful with beautiful potted trees, plants and ivy surrounded by Jerusalem stone walls. We felt as if we were enjoying time in the countryside and easily forgot that we were located across the street from the Market in such a serene space. After navigating the hustle and bustle of the city streets outside, the secluded little nook was a perfect way to balance our days. The location was also excellent for touring Jerusalem. The historic neighborhood and the Mahane Yehuda Market give you an authentic Jerusalem experience and it is central to Jerusalem’s sightseeing attractions. The light rail is a short walk and was very convenient for our group; ages ranging from 6 to 79. Of course the Market is a big attraction and it is fun purchasing from the huge bins of fresh fruits, nuts and breads. You can find most anything you want within the market. There are also many excellent restaurants nearby to choose from and the wonderful folks at the Market Courtyard office were always happy to supply us with a list of recommendations and numbers for reservations. We ventured out of the building to the street for coffees and pastries in the morning. (We highly recommend a great coffee and pastry shop – as you exit from the alley to the street, turn right and it is a few shops down on the right… I think it is called Mafa Naman –the sign is in Hebrew without vowels – with a red canopy on the front.) A few days we enjoyed lunches bought from Mahane Yehuda Market and tried many falafel. Our group voted the falafel stand directly across from the Kippah Man shop on the right at the Market entrance as the best falafel around. If you are driving and not familiar with the area, finding The Market Courtyard can be a little challenging. We recommend calling ahead to ask which alleyway is the best and where to access the entrance. The easiest alley is located off the next street over and we were able to pull up very close to the entrance to unload our luggage. Initially it was tricky finding the alley so we parked temporarily at the Market Parking Lot and walked to check in. There is little time to look for the alley signs on such busy and fast paced streets and many are one-way only. Once we found the location and the alley everything seemed easy. There is a parking garage located a few block away. The Market Courtyard is a Jerusalem gem! Our stay was wonderful and we would not change a thing. We are looking forward to returning on our next vacation in Jerusalem.

April, 2014 We arrived late at night and the directions to use the lockbox to gain access to the keys were perfect. Having a car is a hassle and my suggestion is to drop it in a garage and take cabs or walk. Not all garages are open 24/7…the one I used is just up the block beyond the tall building with the health food store on the same side of the street. Upon arrival I left note as there was no attendant and the next day I came by and the attendant was fine and asked when I arrived. Our room faced the walkway which was great as it was quiet. The next morning we went to the Machane Yehuda market shopping for groceries. Couldn’t be easier. Be sure and visit Marzipan, the bakery on agripas…the rugalach are awesome. We walked and cabbed wherever we went and it was easy to do both. Check out was easy…turn over the keys to the guy at the first room by the entrance. The only hassle was pulling the car into the alley next to the hotel to retrieve the bags. All in all it was a great place and we would certainly return.
May, 2014 This is our second stay in this apartment. This time it was myself, my wife and teenage daughter. The apartment is in a fantastic location overlooking the Market Place with a balcony to boot with great views to watch the hustle and bustle. It is only a short walk to the Old City (Perhaps 15 minutes with long legs) in a very safe area. There are lots of late night shops (apart from on Saturday of course), and great for nightlife and a nice drink. There are nice restaurants on Jaffa Street with good connections to the light rail system. The Market has everything you need! The apartment is clean and comfortable with very effective air conditioning. There are towels provided. The bedding is clean. The pots and dishes are all good condition and they even left us some coffee and tea with some sugar, salt and pepper. (All things you need so you don’t have to buy a large pack!). The owner DINA is a very friendly person, and although we didn’t see her this time, the people dealing with us were friendly, professional and courteous. One word of advice, We hired a car again, and parked around the corner not far at all from the apartment. Parking fines are 100 shekels per day. We got away with 2 parking fines paying 200 shekels for pretty much 5 nights of parking as we got no fines on the Saturday. Not a bad rate really as it is about £40.00. There is parking down the road which appears safe, but we didn’t mind paying the fines. Thanks for reading, and enjoy your stay!!!! John Grant
